BIOGRAPHY
OF LORI JAE REICH
Lori Jae Reich was born March 23, 1946 in Chicago Illinois, and has two
adult children. One of Lori’s earliest memories is one of waiting to
paint in kindergarten class. However,
that was her only endeavour in art until her pursuit of the creative side of
hair design as a professional stylist.
In the spring of 1979 Lori won an award for hair design in an
Illinois
statewide
competition. In December 1979, her
world was turned upside down when the small airplane she was in crashed in poor
weather on arrival into
Green Bay
,
Wisconsin
. Two people
died and Lori was in intensive care for almost two weeks.
Besides physical ailments such as chronic pain and Fibromyalgia, Lori
primarily suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder complicated by Agoraphobia
(fear of leaving home or a safe place), Severe Panic and Anxiety Disorder, and
Depression.
In
1991, Lori felt it was time to pursue something that she remembered as a child
in kindergarten. She really enjoyed
art, and inwardly felt it would be the therapy she needed. So she checked out
art books on acrylic from the public library and painted with enthusiasm.
Then Lori met an
artist who helped her by giving her the basics of his very own
personally developed glazing technique. The Norbert H. Kox Glazing Technique
allowed her to now begin to build color and the strange creatures which she has
used to help accentuate the many messages within her work.
Because of her volunteer work in mental health advocacy and human service
issues, she is placing her feelings, personal societal views and attitudes on
canvas. In 1998 she started to
practice yoga and in 2000 became a student of Zen Buddhism studying at the Green
Tara Sangha in
Green Bay
,
WI
.
Currently, Lori Jae has chosen to bring out her Spiritual Arts background
by doing Intuitive Readings, teaching Spiritual Channeling, Past Life Discovery,
Dream Interpretation, Energy Balancing and more.
She has been exhibiting her paintings since 1992.
Her work has progressed from abstract to “message art” since mid-1995
and is now moving into a more spiritual abstract.
She has exhibited around the
U.S.
and
Australia
, including
an invitation to show at the
American
Visionary
Art Museum
,
Baltimore
,
MD.
She has had
the honor of having her work chosen to receive awards and purchase awards.
Her biography and paintings are featured in the book, “Journey
Within”, released by the Very Special Arts Wisconsin Adult and Children
Permanent Art Collections and is a featured artist in the book, “Miracle of
the Spirit, Folk, Art and Stories From Wisconsin” by Ann Perry Parker and Don
Krug, 2005. Lori Jae considers
herself, “the perfect imperfect piece of a perfect puzzle”.
